ISO 14001 standard which is the one of the most commonly used standards within the serial of ISO standards, is being revised.
ISO 14001 is being revised by International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in order to be adopted to the changing World, and to be compatible with other management system standards. ISO/TC 207/SC1 Technical Committee is responsible for the revision.
You may find the developing stages about the standard revision which was structured in August 2011 as following. Latest version of ISO 14001:2015 will be in force with the publishment on October 2015.

TRANSITION: The International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the ISO Committee on Conformity Assessment (CASCO) have agreed to a three year transition period from the publication date of ISO 14001:2015.
IAF Resolution 2014-11 was passed by the IAF General Assembly in Vancouver on 17 October 2014 endorsing a 3 year transition period to ISO 14001:2015.
Validity of certifications to ISO 14001:2004: ISO 14001:2004 certifications will not be valid after three years from the publication of ISO 14001:2015.
The expiry date of certification to ISO 14001:2004 issued during the transition period needs to correspond to the end of the three year transition period. Certifications of ISO 14001: 2004 will not be valid by October 2018.
